Most of us think of chocolate🍫 when we hear "cacao"—but did you know that 70% of the cacao fruit goes to waste in the chocolate-making process?
What if we could turn
these overlooked parts into valuable, sustainable products? Firstly, lets get familiar with these products:
🍯Cacao pulp - A white sticky and fleshy substance surrounding the beans that is also naturally sweet.
🥥Cacao husk/pod - The outer shell of the fruit that is high in fibers.
🍂Cacao bean shells – The layer surrounding the beans that is left behind after roasting.
Right now, we are exploring how we can upcycle these by-products into valuable, sustainable solutions. This is just Episode 1 of our series—where we’ll explore their potential, challenges, and innovations.
Let’s reimagine cacao together! Have you come across any products made from cacao by-products? Would you try a cacao-based sweetener or eco-friendly packaging? Drop your thoughts below and stay tuned for the next episodes!
